7. Great Pyrenees
No. 7 on our list of dog breeds created by humans is the Great Pyrenees. Developed centuries ago to work with herding dogs and shepherds in the Pyrenees Mountains, the Great Pyrenees were tasked with keeping an eye on the flock and deterring predators, such as bears, wolves, or livestock rustlers. Their courage and patience are traits that made them so good at their jobs.
Pyrs today are mellow, furry friends and vigilant guardians of family and home. These big, immensely strong mountain dogs can reach a height as high as 32 inches at the shoulder, frequently tipping the scales at over 100 pounds. They usually exhibit a Zen-like calm, but they can quickly swing into action and move with speed to meet a threat.
