To have the dog come over and lay down on you must make you feel so precious and chosen. This is a brief list of dogs who are tiny enough to fit on laps and have a genetic predisposition to genuinely like that, making them excellent lap dogs according to owners and breeders.

Bichon Frise

The Bichon Frise is among our list of lap dogs that tend to be friendlier and cuddling than others. Look at it—so fuzzy and ready to sit on your lap all day.

Regular maintenance is necessary for their fluffy white fur, but daily brushing won’t be difficult if your Bichon is constantly curled up on your lap! Their life expectancy is 14 to 15 years, so you will be lucky to have it a long while by your side.

Maltese

The Maltese’s graceful, long white fur immediately reveals that they are descended from royalty. A Maltese puppy may weigh up to 8 pounds and measure between 7 and 12 inches.

These dogs have flourished in a range of settings and have been wonderful companions to a diverse range of humans for generations. Maltese are intelligent, friendly, and wonderful companion dogs ready to jump and sit on your lap all day long. And there’s nothing wrong with that!

Biewer Terrier

Since the American Kennel Club officially recognized the rarer breed of Biewer terrier in 2021, the breed’s popularity has grown rapidly. Regular brushing is necessary for their coats, but not as much as other breeds on the list. However, keeping them clipped short facilitates this process.

Because they are intelligent, these adorable lap dogs will enjoy both playing games indoors or going on lengthy walks outside, depending on what you want to do. They’re super calm and friendly, and easy to train too.

Bolognese

These tiny lap dogs are so cute and fluffy that you will want to smooch them all day long! Bolognese are super social and friendly; that’s why they need extra attention from their owners. So don’t be surprised if they will be mad at you if you leave them home alone for too long.

I’d recommend keeping their coat short so you won’t have to groom them every day twice a day and still see a lot of hair on the floor.

Miniature Schnauzer

Living up to their name these lap dogs are adorable and super adaptable to any household. From studio apartments to bigger houses, they will be happy anywhere. Little schnauzers are happy dogs that like impressing their owners. Even though they don’t shed much, they might have a lot of coat hair.

They’re also super obedient and easy to train and will learn new things in the blink of an eye without too much effort. For seniors who desire a dog but not a big one, schnauzers are also a great option.

Italian Greyhound

Don’t get fooled by their size though! This breed can make the perfect lap dog for any kind of household including the ones that have one or many kids in it.

Italian greyhounds may go from zero to sixty miles per hour or faster if they spot possible prey running away from them, despite their propensity to be cuddly, lazy couch potatoes. These small puppies are usually happy to curl up in your lap and enjoy your warmth. I couldn’t think of a more perfect companion during rainy days!

This breed doesn’t shed at all so don’t worry about grooming or allergies if you have any.

Tibetan Spaniel

Tibetan Spaniels are immensely proud dogs since they were raised to be hardworking animals. It also indicates that they aspire to make you proud, even if at times it appears as though they are refusing to obey orders.

When these puppies are at their finest, they are unbelievably loyal and would follow you anywhere on the planet if you only asked. They’re also a very long-lived breed, so expect them to be around you for more than 12 years.

French Bulldog

Everybody loves French Bulldogs! Cute and tiny, they make the perfect lap dogs to hug you every time you want. And guess what? They will never refuse it. Unless they’re sleeping (haha).

Frenchies are among the most popular dog breeds nowadays, along with pugs, and you can spot the breed’s characteristic upright bat-like ears popping through the thicket of toy dogs at every metropolitan dog park and farmer’s market.

These robust little creatures love a good game of fetch, but be careful to not stress them in intense heat since his flat face may make breathing challenging.

Japanese Chin

This breed originated in China in the eighth century and was later brought to Asia and the Americas by mariners, where it was adopted as a lap dog by socially elite women.

A Japanese Chin is more than simply the perfect lap dog—it’s a true companion animal with delicate eyes, a royal long-hair coat, and a knack for crowd-pleasing activities like dancing on hind legs and spinning in circles paired with almost feline confidence.

Due to its modest weight, this breed is also very simple to transport on short excursions; nevertheless, if you travel by car, leave it in the backseat, ideally with a human nearby.

Even lap dogs require a comfortable place to relax! Your pooch absolutely needs this soft, machine-washable, non-slip bed. It’s a veterinarian-approved bed available in 14 colors on Amazon to help soothe your stressed-out or nervous dog. Give your dog the cozy environment they need!

Chinese Crested

Chinese Cresteds are a popular toy breed that is considered classic lap dogs because of their intensely sticking attachment to their owners. They are available in two varieties: powderpuff and hairless.

When you’re ready for a binge, your Chinese Crested will probably leap up on the couch or curl up on your lap since they’re good jumpers with a fair dose of energy and ferocious intellect. Additionally, have dry-skin dog shampoo on hand because hairless dogs may need extra skin care in homes with high temperatures.

Havanese

The Havanese, sometimes known as the Havana Silk Dog, is a bichon-type dog. The Cuban Revolution brought the breed to America, where American breeders began to take an interest in the Havanese.

In 1996, the AKC recognized the Cuban breed. Even though they are considered toys, Havanese dogs are useful for many purposes, such as tracking and detection, therapy, aid, and signaling. They may participate in dog sports like flyball and obedience training since they are very trainable and fast.
