These 7 Low-Energy Dogs Are Definitely Couch Potatoes

Shih Tzu

Shih Tzus are more popular than it would first seem, especially with elder households and even with families, mostly because they are thought to be a lazy breed. Despite this, they are not actually lazy; they just have lower energy levels, and most of the time they are definitely up for playing, or they can get very playful.

However, they still remain a popular low-energy breed at times because they are very sociable, do well in places with a lot of people, and are great with children and even other dogs. They are very adaptable, and you will not have many issues with them.

Some of the things to keep in mind if you want to get a Shih Tzu are that they do not do well in extremely hot weather. Much like their cousins on this list that are also a flat-faced breed, the Shih Tzu is also prone to some respiratory health issues, but when compared to the Pugs, they are more likely to develop eye problems.

They are known for their signature tear-stained eyes. Yet, this only means you will have to not only get into the habit of wiping their eyes daily, but also get them to be comfortable with you doing that. However, there is nothing a few treats and positive reinforcement will not solve, so you will not have much hassle getting them to agree to it!

Moreover, you should know beforehand that their coats need a lot of maintenance so they don’t get tangled or matted and become uncomfortable for them. A lot of owners like to get them to a groomer frequently, but you should make sure you are ready to brush them— a lot of you are not!
