Do you know which are the most intelligent dog breeds?
Dogs were domesticated over 10,000 years ago primarily to assist humans in hunting, herding, and providing protection. Over the centuries, the relationship between dogs and humans has evolved from a working relationship to more of a friendship relationship.
Today, we appreciate dogs for their cuteness, loyalty, and companionship, but many breeds are known for their ability to learn new tricks and show problem-solving skills.
What makes a dog smart?
According to Stanely Cohen, professor of canine psychology, three main aspects define dog intelligence: instinct, ability to adapt, and obedience. It seems like only well-behaved dogs may be considered to be smart. But how about when your pup is being mischievous, like coming up with clever ways to steal food or figuring out how to open a door?
Misbehaving can also be a sign that your pup is quite smart. Experts say that dogs with high cognitive skills can show their intelligence in ways that can be frustrating for owners.
Let’s look at the list of the smartest breeds according to studies done to test dog intelligence.
