Dogs Can Recognize Their Mother After Years Of Separation Thanks To Sense Of Smell

Harper the puppy was separated from her mother at just 11 weeks old. This is not uncommon for dogs and is in fact quite an appropriate age for puppies to leave their moms. Just the same, there is an adjustment period for the animals to realize that they won’t see their parents again.

A scientist did a study to see whether or not these dogs that get separated from each other early on can still recognize one another years later. What they found was astounding. About 84 percent of dogs can still recognize their mother many years later. And little Harper was no exception to this.
