#1 Capybara

The capybara is one of the largest rodents in the planet, weighing up to 140 pounds. The cutest animal we’ve ever seen, too. Make sure you give them access to spaces where they may easily swim around since their native environment involves a lot of water.

The main drawback is that they are difficult to keep. Since they are social creatures who prefer to live in groups, it is best to have at least a pair rather than a single one. Additionally, before getting one, be careful to verify with local registration because, in some US states, you need a specific license in order to obtain one. Also, capybaras need frequent vet check-ups, and it might be challenging to find a specialized veterinarian in your area.

Besides vet care and socialization, these not-so-little buddies have a varied diet. This means that you should feed them some grasses like timothy, bermuda, and orchard grass on a regular basis. We have to note that their diet should be balanced and should not include too much protein or fat because this can lead to many health problems.
