6. Mysterious lumps

This is most likely the first sign that comes to mind when you think of cancer. An unusual swelling or lump that doesn’t go away. And it is true that this is a significant symptom that can indicate the presence of this disease.

But you need to know that not all tumors are cancerous. Tumors can also be benign, which means that if you eliminate them, they will not return and everything will be ok. On the other hand, malignant tumors are the ones that scare us because they are cancerous. Many times, even if you remove them, they will keep coming back.

The most common tumors in dogs are skin tumors. So, always check the skin of your buddy and see if there are any abnormal growths or other signs.

But a strange lump is not always a tumor. It can also be a swollen lymph node. And swollen lymph nodes are another thing that you should carefully examine since they can indicate the presence of lymphoma, which is the most common type of cancer in dogs, especially in Golden Retrievers.

We advise you to perform regular “lump checks” on your dog. If you do this once a month, it is more than enough. This is an essential measure that can help you save the life of your dog.

Many lumps you find will most likely be fatty deposits, and with time, you will learn to recognize when a lump is dangerous and when it is not.
