German Shepherd
German shepherds are oftentimes associated with guard and protection; that’s why so many people know they are used as police dogs.
However, they have some character traits that show how they can be good service dogs, too. German shepherds have a little bit of everything you’d want in a good service dog breed because they’re incredibly smart, well-behaved, and super easy to train.
They bond strongly with their owners as well. German shepherds were probably the first dogs to take on the role of service animals, and they could do everything for their owners. In fact, many of them have the size and strength to help mobility-impaired owners move around, and they are super attentive to notice when the other person starts to feel anxious.
Moreover, the breed has an excellent sense of smell, which makes them very well-suited for monitoring blood sugar levels.
Poodle
Lots of people think poodles are nothing but prissy dogs with fancy haircuts. In reality, they’re incredibly smart and capable, and they adore having a job.
Also, I feel the need to mention that if you own a Poodle, you can genuinely give him any haircut you please. Poodles have a wonderful demeanor for service work, and they are very easy to train. Besides, they look amazing in a service vest!
The vast majority of people who want a poodle for service work should select a standard poodle (poodles usually come in different sizes, as standard poodles are the largest). They are bigger and stronger than other types of poodles.
Even if you don’t need a service dog to perform great physical work, smaller varieties could be easier to take with you into crowded locations.
