#1 Cocker Spaniel
The Cocker Spaniel is a familiar and adored breed in many American homes thanks to their big eyes and constantly waving tails. However, just like any other breed of dog, these pups have a few traits and some susceptibilities that you should be aware of.
When it comes to Cocker Spaniels, those beautiful eyes can be worrisome. They are more likely than any other breeds to develop cataracts, Cherry eye, and progressive retinal atrophy. Therefore, as an owner, you must know what to watch out for. Ask the breeder about the parent’s eye histories when viewing your puppy for the very first time.
Those long and fluffy ears are particularly prone to infection. Your Cocker’s ears getting wet and muddy, along with humid and poor air circulation, create the perfect environment for yeast infections, cankers, and ear mites. A persistent tilting and pulling of the ears, as well as a foul, waxy discharge, are the main warning signs that something is wrong. So, keep an eye on your dog, and if you notice any worrying signs take him to the vet immediately.
