#1 Pay Attention to Scenting
Their solitary ancestors had the benefit of being able to interact with other felines over great distances and when they were no longer physically present. Our household pets, cats, have preserved this “supersense,” and they frequently use it to communicate.
Cats, in particular, use scent to recognize members of their family or community because they have a common group scent profile. Because cats have smell glands on their flanks, heads, and ears, they frequently brush their heads against familiar people and objects.
Does your cat frequently brush its face or side against your legs? Your cat is recognizing you as a buddy when it brushes up against your legs, which is a major compliment.
