Belgian Malinois

While German Shepherds have been the favorite police dog breed over the years, they have since been dethroned by their cousins, the Belgian Malinois. This breed of dog resembles the German Shepherd; however, they are lighter and much faster than them.
This breed has been bred to work, and they were originally employed as herding dogs. However, over the years, they have expanded their job opportunities, becoming great service, show, therapy, and, of course, police dogs!

While they are known as a police dog breed, the Belgian Malinois is also commonly seen in special forces units and in the military. They are very energetic and have a lot of stamina, so they require extensive training and exercise to be able to reign it in when they are not working.

Despite that, they are extremely easy to train, loyal, obedient, and agile, which makes them perfect for the more risky and demanding jobs since they are extremely loyal to their partners and owners.

They have been used in all types of task forces over the years, yet the most impressive job they have is the extreme one of sniffing out explosives and other accelerants, along with finding contraband goods and other illegal paraphernalia (such as drugs).
