6. Siberian Husky

Mischevious and graceful, the Siberian Husky was originally used as a sled dog and was able to haul light loads over wide expanses of frozen wasteland in frosty temperatures.

In 1925, the breed hit the headlines when Huskies traveled 658 miles in only five-and-a-half days to rush a lifesaving serum to Nome, Alaska. Thanks to the dogs, the diphtheria epidemic striking the city was defeated.

One of the most popular dog breeds created by humans, the Siberian Husky is a friendly companion but not a very good guard dog. It tends to be strong-willed and isn’t an easy dog to train.
