#8 Texas (Flood-Rafting Fire Ants)
The CDC lists Texas as one of only two states where a “venomous arthropod” hazard exists. It is one of the Southern states where invading fire ants, whose bites are severe but rarely lethal, are causing more and more issues. Similar to those who are allergic to bees, they are most deadly to persons who have a venom allergy.
Videos taken during Hurricane Harvey of ant colonies floating in the flooded areas caused some concern, and for good reason. A fire ant colony will climb anything dry they come across, even if it is a terrified person. They learned this skill in their native rainforest, and they use their curled legs and body wax to cling to one another.
Keep in mind that prevention is the best strategy in case of animal danger.
