Because they are pack animals, just like their cousins the wolves, dogs prefer to eat alongside their family. Many dogs who suffer from separation anxiety won’t eat while their owner isn’t home. Some dogs who experience separation anxiety even anticipate having their human companion around as they eat, and they will stop if their owner leaves the room.
Additionally, you should consider if your dog is going through any other emotional hurdles that might be causing its anorexia. They may lose their appetite if they are grieving the loss of an owner or a close animal companion.
