#5 Anxiety and Environmental Changes

Getting used to their new place can take a recently adopted dog days or even weeks. It’s not unusual for a new member of the family to refuse meals for the first day or two because anxiety is a typical cause of a temporary lack of appetite.

Making sure they have a quiet dining area away from other animals or young children who might disturb them is key. You don’t need to be concerned about them not eating for a day or two as long as they’re otherwise healthy and not experiencing vomiting or diarrhea.

However, they should be checked by a vet to clear up any underlying medical concerns if they have any other symptoms or don’t eat anything for more than 48 hours.
