Golden Retrievers
Why Is This A Problematic Dog Breed?
Their most significant health concern is cancer.
This problematic dog breed is probably the most shocking one on our list! Especially since we all know that Golden Retrievers are among the most popular dogs in our country.
But unfortunately, vets try to stay away from them because they’re also one of the dog breeds most affected by cancer.
According to research, 61% of Goldens are affected by cancer. In fact, the ASPCA says that many of them die from it, and it’s the number one killer of ALL adult dogs.
But Golden Retrievers are notably sensitive, it seems. The breed’s lifespan has gone from about 16 years old to less than ten years in the last 40 years.
Don’t get us wrong: We LOVE this breed. Who wouldn’t? But if you get a Golden Retriever, just be aware that you might have to deal with cancer sooner rather than later, at least until some better solutions are found.
To sum up, it’s important to note that all the problematic dog breeds we mentioned are truly beautiful pups.
And we don’t wish to discourage anyone from seeking more information about them. But you should be aware that some can have specific issues that mandate costly training or treatment.
And it’s not just the purebreds we’re talking about. If you get a mixed breed from a rescue or shelter that resembles one of these breeds, the dog COULD share some of the same concerns.
