Why Is This A Problematic Dog Breed?

Doberman dogs are prone to a particular type of heart disease.

We get! You probably thought you’d see this problematic dog breed on our list for being too aggressive and dangerous.

But the truth is that vets don’t recommend having these pups for financial reasons and, ultimately, heartbreak.

One veterinarian has said: “I’ve met many lovely Dobermans, but it’s shocking how many of them get a type of heart disease called dilated cardiomyopathy.”

In fact, MOST Dobermans get this kind of heart disease, and it typically has a poor prognosis.

The vet we spoke with recounted a sad experience in which a Doberman passed away before he could intervene due to the condition.

The owner didn’t know anything was wrong until it was too late. Doberman Pinschers are another breed that can suffer from this condition.

They can also have cervical vertebral instability. Another thing to think about is Von Willebrand’s disease. It’s a blood clotting disorder that can occur in Dobermans.

However, it’s not particularly common. The good news is that there’s a genetic test available to detect this gene.
