Small breeds and infant dogs are especially vulnerable to the fatal effects of caffeine, according to one study. That’s because pups and small dogs have lower blood volume, which means a low ability for their bodies to process caffeine. Renal excretion skyrockets while metabolism plummets.
Similar to other human foods that are toxic for dogs, there’s no antidote to caffeine poisoning for canine friends. Studies show that caffeine toxicity in these animals is also very difficult to spot, confirm, and treat.
