#4 Biewer Terrier
The AKC recognized the Biewer Terrier about the same time that it did the Azawakh; however, because this breed is so young, it was only recently recognized. In 1984, German breeders Gertrud and Werner Biewer thought they had something truly special when a Yorkie litter they were breeding produced a puppy with the unusual colors of blue, white, and gold.
Although the two breeds remain extremely similar in terms of look, demeanor, and disposition, a DNA analysis conducted in 2007 revealed that the Biewer Terrier is a different breed from the Yorkshire terrier. In the United States, there are approximately 1,500 Biewer terriers.
