What’s also concerning is that the number of kids bitten by venomous snakes is bigger in Florida and Texas, mostly because in these states there are more snakes. Florida has no less than six venomous snakes.

There’s the eastern diamond rattlesnake, the timber rattlesnake, the pygmy rattlesnake, the cottonmouth, copper heard, and the eastern coral snake. The last major bite that led to death occurred in 2014 when a 4-year-old was bitten by a timber rattlesnake.

Also, in 2005, two other deaths occurred, from a coral and eastern diamondback rattlesnake bite.

Most snakebite deaths in this state were linked to the bite of an eastern diamondback. And it gets “better”: there are also 3 scorpions that have been discovered in Florida that are capable of producing painful stings. Luckily they aren’t fatal.

In Florida, there’s also the southern black widow and brown recluse, both of which have venom that can cause painful bites.
