7. Basenji
This compact breed is also known as the “Barkless Dog.” And, indeed, they can’t bark. These pups have their larynx shaped in a different way, which doesn’t let them bark. They can growl or make other sounds, but in general, they are not the most vocal.
The Basenjis are also hunting dogs that can easily hunt birds and other small animals. Because they don’t bark, African tribes used to tie a bell around their necks when they went out hunting. In this way, the people were able to follow the dog around by hearing the ringing of the bell.
