Chow Chow

You may have heard that Chow Chows, despite being a rare breed, are also one of the calmest and lowest-energy breeds out there. And while this is definitely the case for this unique breed of dog, they are also not suitable for first-time pet owners.

What they lack in high energy levels, they make up for through their intelligence, loyalty, and instincts to guard. Chow Chows can also be very obstinate and stubborn at times, and they are known to not always get along with strangers and even with other dogs that come onto their territory.

Most of the time, it is recommended that you take a Chow Chow to training classes to make sure you know how to handle their protective bursts and so that they are socialized properly with other dogs and their owners!

What can also shock first-time pet owners is the fact that while they are loyal to a fault and calm, they are not an attention-seeking or overly affectionate breed. They do love you, but they are very independent and may seem aloof. But do not let that fool you!

They will also need constant grooming to keep their fluffy coats tangle-free. So if you are a seasoned pet owner and you do not mind a low-energy, high-maintenance puppy, they are the ones for you!
