#1 Border Collie

The border collie is the brightest canine breed known to man, according to The Intellect of Dogs, which assesses 131 dog breeds based on their relative intelligence. Want proof? The Border Collie Chaser, a gifted “language learner” from South Carolina, recognized well over 1,000 words. However, there are other criteria besides just being “book smart.”

The border collie is a dog breed descended from European herding dogs that roamed the mountainous borders of England, Scotland, and Wales. These canines were developed to be as clever and agile as possible to survive the hazardous environment. Additionally, it benefits from a solid work ethic.

Furthermore, these canines are intelligent enough to pick up on routines and may be taught to manage everyday duties with little supervision. Border collies are agile, athletic, and perceptive dogs who have consistently performed well in agility contests, claiming victories in prominent events like the legendary Crufts International in their home country of the United Kingdom.
