2. German Shepherd

These dogs are some of the most popular canines in the US, and for good reasons. They are friendly and loyal, but at the same time, they are fierce protectors of their owners. They are obedient and extremely intelligent, making them the perfect dog for training. This is the main reason you can often see German Shepherds that are working as service dogs for the police or for the army.

These canines are on the expensive side, and if you want to buy a puppy, you will spend between $450 and $1,900. If you decide to adopt one, you will still have to pay an adoption fee between $250 and $350.

Moving forward, let’s say you have a new German Shepherd companion. What is next? Well, only vaccination and food expenses will be around $1000 per year.

The life expectancy of this breed is 11–12 years, and there is a high chance you will need to bring your friend to the vet because German shepherds are known to have some inherited health problems such as allergies, degenerative myelopathy, and knee and hip dysplasia.
