2. Canine Influenza
Another contagious disease your dog may get is the flu, also known as canine influenza. It is spread similarly to the human flu through sneezing and coughing, and the recovery steps are also very much like the ones we take when we’re sick. Therefore, dogs should be kept comfortable and warm while they recover naturally.
According to veterinarians, the canine flu is often transmitted in animal shelters and is less likely to spread widely among dogs in general. They also point out that there was a severe outbreak in a Chicago kennel in the past, when hundreds of dogs were infected within days.
This being said, experts say that dogs that don’t frequent places like boarding and daycare don’t necessarily need the vaccine. However, it’s important to note that many of those places now require it.
