#6 Papillon

The Papillon is a companion dog that is very trainable and is sometimes called the butterfly dog for its big, floppy ears.

Paintings are a major source of information about the history of the Papillion people. Small dogs like Papillons and several of the companion dogs that were popular in the middle of the 1500s were depicted in paintings by Tiziano Vicelli. In a picture of Louis XIV’s family, a Papillon is also visible. Early criteria for the breed called for a twisted tail over the back, earning it the nickname “Squirrel Spaniel.”

The Papillon is a dog that, while being little, could really shine in dog events. They learn quickly and become adept at carrying out almost any task that their owners assign them. Papillons interact well with other animals and strangers thanks to their strong energy and amiable personalities.
