Labrador Retriever

One of the most beloved breeds by American families, it is very easy to have a labrador retriever that is overweight in your household. Known to be food lovers and even downright obsessed with eating, the explanation is easy, but not a lot of owners are aware of this.

Scientists have found that the Lab has a genetic mutation that causes the breed to more often than not still feel hungry after they have eaten; they do not feel full that often, which causes them to overeat and owners to overfeed them since they still seem hungry. This can easily snowball, and you can end up with a pup that is several pounds heavier than it should be!

The issue with overweight labs is so severe that the Pet Obesity Prevention organization has found, following a 2012 study, that 60% of all the labs they surveyed were overweight!
