#4 Use cleaning products that are pet-safe

If you have a cat in your home or any other pet, you need to be very careful with the cleaning products that you are using, especially those you use to clean, for example, their litter box. Pets are often tempted to eat off the floor or other surfaces or lick them, and if you are cleaning with the wrong product, this could turn life-threatening.

In case you are a cat parent, this information is essential to know: cats are attracted to bleach! This happens because of the composition of bleach. All products that contain bleach have a compound called sodium hypochlorite, which has a powerful chlorine smell.

This smell is characteristic of animal urine, and your cat can react to it in different ways. Some might feel threatened and avoid the area you cleaned with bleach, while others may feel attracted to the odor and rub themselves compulsively on that spot. This last one is dangerous because the chlorine is toxic, and if your cat licks it off their coat, it can cause problems.

Keep this in the back of your mind and always buy cleaning products that are pet-safe.
