Chondrodysplasia

Chondrodysplasia is a very intricate and long word that describes the short and twisted legs of some low breeds out there, such as Dachshunds and Basset Hounds.

Their breed standard leads to significant abnormalities of the bones and joints of the legs and severe arthritis later in adulthood.

But it gets worse than that: the lack of proportional shortening of the length of the back puts even more abnormal stress on the intervertebral disks, which results in a high incidence of disk illness.

When it comes to disk diseases, the best outcome implies arthritis of the back, and the worst one implies a disk rupture and paralysis.
