Cocker Spaniel

The cocker spaniel is one of the smaller breeds on our list, but despite their size, they were not bred to be decorations. Their original roles in the household were to chase game, and for that, they have a ton of energy.

While they are absolutely adorable, they need to be provided with a lot of activity and exercise to both keep them happy and get rid of all the pent-up energy. Despite this, they make for extremely gentle dogs, which also love to cuddle, which makes them great for families with children.

A word of warning: they love water and swimming, so if you are ever around a body of water, make sure they are trained to listen to your commands, or you will end up with a very soggy pup!

Likewise, their cousin, the Cavalier King Charles spaniel, while even smaller than the cocker spaniel, is also part of the high-energy group of dogs!
