Doberman Pinscher

Being a very popular guard dog, we should not be surprised to see the Doberman Pinscher on the list of the best police dog breeds. They are an impressive and large breed that is going to make people’s heads turn towards them and know to be careful.

Despite the fact that they are impressive and do inspire some fear in people, they are very obedient dogs that are known for their loyalty and desire to protect and guard. Dobermans have been used as police dogs for years, ever since the 1960s as control or attack dogs, and since then they have been a staple in the K9 units in the United States.

The reason why the Doberman Pinschers make one of the best police dog breeds is the fact that they are highly trainable and obedient, and once they receive a command, they will not hesitate to listen. They are quick to fulfill their duties and complete their commands and tasks, and their great hearing sense and muscular body help them complete all sorts of tasks.

The one reason they are not as often seen as they once were in some areas of the world, despite having all the desired characteristics for a police dog, is because of their coat. Having a short, smooth coat, Dobermans can get cold pretty easily, and just like humans, this can impair their performance in their job.
