Nicknamed the “Heartbreak Breed,” Great Danes are giants, making them a problematic dog breed.
And huge dogs like these tend to have a shorter lifespan than small and medium-sized dogs simply because of their size.
We all go through a tough time when we lose our beloved pups. But losing them after a mere 7 years of being together sounds like heartbreak waiting to happen!
In this instance, with its deep chest cavity, the Great Dane is also about 40 times more likely to experience bloating than the average mixed-breed dog.
You might not have known, but this is a life-threatening condition that occurs when air or gas builds up in the dog’s gut and it twists, cutting off its blood supply.
And sadly, without timely emergency treatment, the canine can die. But even with prompt treatment, a large percentage of this breed still passes away.
Great Danes can also have dilated cardiomyopathy, just like we mentioned about Dobermans.
