Decorate, decorate, decorate

“Who’s a good boy (or girl)?” This is what you say to your furry friend every time you come home, and then you’re showered with affection and hugs, and your evening suddenly becomes better. Then why not make them feel amazing on their birthday?

And what is a party without proper decoration? Do you remember those times when you helped your family and friends throw their best birthday party and you managed to succeed? Well, this applies to this occasion as well.

Naturally, balloons and ribbons are staples of birthday party décor, but there are also a ton of creative ways to decorate with a dog theme. Create a charming banner fashioned like a bone using paper or cardboard and yarn or twine, scatter dog-friendly confetti on every table, and, if you’re feeling particularly crafty, create a blackboard sign featuring the menu for drinks and snacks.

If you have two left hands and crafts aren’t exactly your cup of tea, you may purchase banners with a dog motif online.

Bake or order dog-friendly cupcakes

One of the best ways to celebrate your dog’s birthday is by baking them cakes or cupcakes with dog-friendly ingredients. To make a delicious dog cake, all you need are some common baking items like eggs, whole-wheat flour, baking soda, and applesauce or baby food. For an added nutritional boost, mix some shredded vegetables, such as carrots, and garnish with cream cheese, peanut butter, or blended bananas.

Naturally, remember not to include chocolate in your dog’s goodies! You can always offer their favorite snacks with a dollop of peanut butter if you’re not into baking or don’t feel like doing it.

DIY party wear

What’s a party without a funky and quirky hat on? A dog wearing a party hat is the cutest thing in the world. Making your own is simple; just glue construction paper, poster board, or foam paper into the shape of a cone (make sure the glue is non-toxic). Next, embellish your puppy with a permanent marker, pompoms, tassels, or other accessories that add to the festive vibe.

If you know your dog doesn’t like wearing something on their head, you can opt for a lovely bandana, which you can easily make by using fabric glue or hemming tape, or a no-sew tutu with tulle strips and elastic.

If it’s during the summer, go for doggie ice cream!

Is your pooch lucky and the tail-wagging birthday takes place in summer? That’s awesome! Make some ice cream for your beloved pet at home using things you most likely have on hand in your cupboard. Blend bananas with creamy peanut butter and plain yogurt; freeze overnight until they reach the desired consistency. Another simple ingredient you can use to make salty ice pops is beef or chicken broth. Just fill a mold with it, then freeze.

Find the perfect gift

Besides treats and dog-friendly cupcakes and other goodies, your pooch deserves a great gift too! There’s no better excuse than your dog’s birthday to visit the toy section at your local pet store, regardless of whether your dog enjoys tennis balls, Kongs, or softer, handmade toys.

Another fun and adorable suggestion is to put your dog in a room with a pile of tennis balls and watch the excitement unfold! Have a camera on hand to take lots of pictures as well.

Some healthful foods that are simple for dogs to grab and consume are tiny carrots, green beans, sliced frozen bananas, and portioned dog treats.

While the dogs are playing, make sure to keep a tight watch on them. You never know which of them will start a mini-fight and run around to mess up the decorations and such.

DIY a photo booth

Strike a pose! Oh no, that’s for humans. Strike a paw! Photos are absolutely mandatory for a dog party. You will for sure want it to be remembered as being the best party ever, especially if it’s their first. So, why not make a DIY photo booth? If you want to rent one fine, but it will cost a bit.

But it’s easier to make your own; grab some props, funny hats, glasses, wigs, and any other funny things that come to mind, and let the imagination run free. Ask the guests to share photos on their social media with a fun hashtag to increase visibility.

Make a fun atmosphere

As your furry friends are having a blast and making your birthday pooch feel like the center of the universe, it’s crucial to ensure that your human guests are not overlooked. Look for board games, card games that can be played with more than four people, or even video games, depending on everyone’s preferences.

To celebrate your dog’s day, prepare some party staples like deviled eggs, avocado dip, or chicken wings. You can also serve beer, wine, or, if you’re really going all out, a specially-made cocktail.

Of course, you can also play with the dogs! Games like hide and seek, fetch, or practicing commands like sit, stay, or come. Make sure that at the end of each round, you have some treats on hand. They’ll be super happy to get some rewards.

Don’t forget about the goody bags

There is no successful party without a goody bag at the end of it. These “souvenirs” make your guests happy, and they have a chance to take something with them that will remind them of the time they had with you. For this kind of party, put in the bags things like small chewable toys, some jerky sticks, or a tiny party hat. Don’t forget about the on-the-go snacks for humans too!
