Ferrets are playful and gregarious animals who like social interaction, especially throughout the day. You will need to provide a ferret with a fairly large cage to accommodate their playful behavior, as well as a little time outside the cage so they can burn off some energy.

However, ferrets have a tendency to provoke trouble and like squeezing themselves into small areas, so you should keep an eye on them while they play and make sure your home is ferret-proof. You should also train your ferrets before letting them out of their cage.

The wonderful thing about getting ferrets is that the majority of them are already neutered and spayed before they are sold as pets, but just to be safe, make sure you double-check with your veterinarian. Neutering and spraying ferrets are important for their health, especially that of their female parents.
