The Golden Retriever is by far the most family-friendly dog breed on this list. With its loving and affectionate demeanor and its gentle way of treating kids and other animals, this dog is the best choice for families with small kids. 

Even though it is a long-haired dog breed, the Golden Retriever does not require much maintenance. A wash every now and then and brushing its coat as needed would most likely do the trick.
