Why does my dog lick everyone?

When you’re out and about with your little dog, your furry friend might lick everyone who’s slightly friendly with you. “I’m sorry, he does that with everyone” is probably a standard answer you feel the need to give.

Well, dogs usually lick the people that they have become comfortable with, and there are two different reasons for that.

First, they want to give that person a sign of their affection, to show them that they love being around humans and especially around their company. Secondly (and this is a bit weirder), they like the taste of their skin.

Sometimes you might notice your dog licking your hands and fingers after a tasty meal. Well, that’s because they really like the food and feel the smell of it. If you haven’t eaten anything recently, then it should be taken as a sign of affection.

Why does my dog like to howl now and then?

Dogs, as we all know, are the proud descendants of wolves, and sometimes their ancestors are calling.

That’s why howling is an extremely instinctive trait passed down from their ancestors. Domesticated dogs howl for three main reasons: they either want to communicate, they want you to know they are sick or injured, or they have separation anxiety.

It’s only natural for a dog to howl, just as long as it’s not happening throughout the day. You might be surprised to know that a dog doesn’t even realize why he’s doing it.

On top of that, if you start howling, then he’s going to howl, too, because that’s their way of communicating and adhering “to the pack”.
